And where off!

The Cover and Contents page!

Well, production on my magazine has begun. To begin with my focus is going to be the preliminary task to which I have to make a simple magazine cover to demonstrate my grasp on making a magazine cover. Firstly my ideas consisted of having a student stand outside the ST Mary's sign and pose and this was going to be the basis of my cover. My second idea was to have a medium close up (which was necessary) of a student holding a certificate of some kind and finally my idea was to have a student reading a book in the library so they are surrounded by books which i thought would suite the theme of a school magazine. I decided to to go with the idea of having a student reading a book in the library, this image was taken in a medium close up as necessary for my preliminary task. I took numerous pictures to determine the
right angle in the correct lighting.

I took this image in MCU (medium close up) as required for the preliminary task however, I felt as though it wasn't correct as the angle looked too much towards the front which to me did not look natural enough to pose as my front cover.

The angle that this image was taken at did not seem to me that the student was properly reading the book and therefore, this was why I did choose this image. Also the angle that the student was sat at made this image less likely to be chosen as it looked obviously manufactured.

I feel that although I took the medium close up image I left a bit too much
room on the top of the image as I was worrying about fitting the articles and the name of the magazine on top. This in turn has taken the importance of my main picture away, this is an issue as conventionally the background image is supposed to be superior to all other aspects on a magazine cover.

The layout seems amateurish as this was simply a first attempt. This was an attempt just to establish whether i could create a magazine cover and to identify whether I could have the minimal conventions on my magazine cover.
The colour scheme used does not also match the image as my intentions where to match the SMC colour scheme however, it does not go with the background and it also does not look appealing. I created this magazine cover whilst just getting the hang of In design and this is why it seems very amateurish. Furthermore, the heading does not look very appealing as it is too simple and seems as if it can be done on a regular everyday programme using the regular word fonts so this will be improved when the real cover is made. The articles also advertised on the cover seem very un-imaginative and these will also be improved in terms of being made more interesting and conventional towards the magazine and the genre that I will be basing my magazine cover on.

Marching on with my preliminary task. With the preliminary task I also had to create a hand drawn contents page and this was to give me a bit of a clue with how to design a contents page as with anything else before this was drawn a bit of research needed to be conducted in order to see what a normal music magazine contents page would look like. As above in the first image on the top right would be an image possible of the sky following through with the contents of the magazine underneath. Following this the image on the right would be a completely different image possible of one of the artists in m magazine and again in the image below the tab. This is preferably  the layout of the contents page that I am going to use in my actual magazine cover.
